Theory: Toyota included a five position switch for the driver's side window. It has auto-down (windows goes all the way down with one press), manual down (window goes down as long as you hold it), resting, manual up (window goes up as long as you hold it) and auto-up (window goes all the way up with one press). For whatever reason, Toyota made it so you could not use the auto-up function. They left a diode out of the circuit board and two pegs on the switch itself to prevent it from moving into the position. With a dremel you can easily fix these pegs and with a soldering iron you can put a diode into the circuit.
Opinion: I have no idea why Toyota did not do this for us MR2 owners (except for "safety reasons"), but hey, it's one of those easy little mods that can give you that much more pride in your vehicle. Every time you use the auto-up function, everyone else thinks it is stock and you know it is something you did to make your car that little bit better. Since the modification was so easy, I definitely recommend it to anyone looking to make a cheap but useful change to their MR2. Maybe you could save it for one of those weekends when you cannot afford a new part but you still want to work on the MR2.
